Books and Pumpkins

Sylvan Avenue Elementary School students in Christina Law’s and Katherine Carpenter’s first-grade classes recently decorated pumpkins based on some of their favorite storybook characters.

After being asked to write a book report based on a story of their choosing, the students employed their creativity and artistic skills to paint, color and dress a pumpkin to resemble the main character from their book.

“By having them read books and bring the characters to life, this activity greatly supported the students’ learning process,” said Ms. Carpenter. “I was very happy with the hard work they put into their pumpkins.”
