A Visit to the Firehouse

Blue Point Elementary School students were recently invited to pay a visit to the Blue Point Fire Department for a day highlighting the life of a firefighter and the importance of fire safety.

To begin their visit, students attended a safety lesson inside the firehouse. In addition to viewing an informational video, they were told of the proper ways to extinguish a fire and reminded about the importance of making sure that smoke detectors batteries are changed every six months.

Students were then led outside to attend a hands-on interaction with various tools that firefighters use on a daily basis. They climbed inside ladder trucks, learned about firefighter tools and even had the chance to practice using a real fire hose with the assistance from firefighters.
