Colorful Science Study

Sylvan Avenue Elementary School second-grade students in Patty Gorman’s class shared their newfound knowledge of butterflies during a recent cross-grade level project.

The second-graders had been studying butterflies as part of their science curriculum and used the lessons learned to create colorful dioramas explaining the life cycle of a butterfly. They then turn keyed their research and became teachers for the first-grade students in Sara Desmond’s class.

During a cross-grade level workshop, the second-graders shared what they had learned and answered questions the first-graders posed. The project also allowed the first-graders to take a sneak peak at what they will be studying next school year.
