Training Leaders

Sylvan Avenue Elementary School’s fourth-grade Peer Leaders had the opportunity to work with and learn from the Bayport-Blue Point High School Peer Educators this May.

Peer Educators are a select group of students trained by the NYS Department of Health in teaching and sharing values and behaviors with individuals from similar social backgrounds or life experiences.

John Martin, Suffolk County Department of Health educator and trainer for the high school program, visited with the Peer Leaders to discuss ways to promote positive interactions, while playing fun self-esteem building activities that the fourth-graders really enjoyed.
