As the winners in an ugly sweater contest held in December, Academy Street Elementary School fourth-graders in Carrie Almskog’s class discovered what it takes to run a school district by acting as Superintendent for the Day just before the holiday break.

With the help of Bayport-Blue Point School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Vincent Butera, the students toured district office, asked questions of administrators about the day-to-day operations of a school district and learned about the important job of superintendent and the decision-making process.

Each student received a varsity letter for participating, compliments of the athletics department.
