Traveling the World

Educational speaker Michael Harrold took Bayport-Blue Point High School ninth- and 10th-graders and James Wilson Young Middle School sixth-graders on a journey through global history during two recent visits to the schools.

Using a PowerPoint presentation filled with photos and a museum of artifacts, Mr. Harrold spoke about some of the 81 countries he has visited during his lifetime.

At the high school, he tied the conversations into the students’ global history curriculum while also focusing on the religions of the non-western world and the need to promote cultural understanding.

At the middle school, he spoke about ancient civilizations, such as China, India and Egypt. Since the students are studying these regions, the artifacts on display allowed them to further explore the country’s cultures firsthand.
