In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, Blue Point Elementary School kindergarten students brushed up on proper dental hygiene when Stacey Varley, a local dental educator, visited the school.

Ms. Varley, who works with Pediatric and Adolescent Dentistry, encouraged the students to brush their teeth twice a day, floss regularly and schedule dental visits to ensure complete oral health. The students viewed a model of teeth and learned about the different instruments dentists use when examining and treating patients. They also identified foods that contribute to healthy mouths and were reminded to enjoy sugary treats sparingly.
As a complement to the visit, the kindergartners created visual representations of healthy teeth when they painted brown tooth-shaped construction paper white with large toothbrushes.
