Learning About the Land Down Under

Blue Point Elementary third-grade classes culminated a multi-week study of Australia with an interactive celebration they called Australian Day.

During the event, the students enjoyed traditional stories, games and customs that helped bring Aussie culture to life. They had the chance to make such things as boomerangs and didgeridoos, as well as share research about Australian animals. To further their understanding of the country, the students created graphic designs on the computer to depict the words they learned and listened to two interesting guest speakers.

Blue Point physical education teacher John Selvaggio spoke about the two years he spent teaching Down Under, and the uncle of third-grader Nate Lennon spoke about being born and raised in Australia.
