Bayport-Blue Point High School ninth-grader Dan Milazzo has earned the highest rank in the Boy Scouts following his completion of a service project focused on community safety.

Dan, a dedicated member of local Troop 329, has become the youngest member of his troop to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. To obtain this honor, he was required to earn at least 21 merit badges and complete an extensive service project.

For his project, Dan raised money and installed 117 fiberglass hydrant markers along several Bayport streets running from Railroad Avenue to the Great South Bay. As a junior volunteer with the Bayport Fire Department, Dan was proud that his project aimed to help two of his personal interests.

“I have enjoyed giving back to the community since my first service project, which was a food drive for the Our Lady of Snow food pantry,” said Dan. “This initiative will help volunteers locate the nearest hydrant when responding to emergencies, a task that is often difficult during the winter. I felt it was a project that would help me both as a community member and a volunteer.”
