A NYS Master Teacher

Bayport-Blue Point High School science teacher Steven Roach has been selected as a New York State Master Teacher.

The program encourages educators to mentor their peers and deepen their own scholastic and professional development. He will join a network of more than 500 outstanding educators who demonstrate a deep understanding of their content area, pedagogy and communities.

Mr. Roach, who has taught in BBP for the past 14 years, currently teaches science research and AP biology. He also advises the Science Olympiad team and Interact Club.

“I am excited for the chance to network with other teachers and help to prepare pre-service teachers for their careers in education,” he said.

For the honor, Mr. Roach had to complete a challenging application process. He had to provide transcripts, recommendation letters, and complete a teaching demonstration, writing sample, personal essay and interview.
“Mr. Roach is a passionate and inspiring educator who is certainly worthy of this recognition,” said High School Principal Dr. Gaurav Passi. “We have always known him to be a master teacher. It is wonderful that he has now been recognized by New York State for his commitment to teaching and learning.”
