Celebrating Champions

Bayport-Blue Point Phantoms had a highly successful spring season, with every varsity team advancing to postseason contests. The girls’ lacrosse team won its first Suffolk County championship, and a number of track and field athletes qualified to compete at the state level. Capping off the season were two state champions: the boys baseball team, and a four-member girls track squad – made up of Kathleen Cibuls, Courtney Dooley, Ashley Magnifico and Brigitte Strobl – who won the 4x400 relay.

For the second straight year, the baseball team returned with record-breaking honors. They are the first Long Island and Class A New York State champions in history to win back-to-back championships. The four track stars also set a new school record by almost a full second and have the third fastest small school 4x400 time in Long Island history. Additionally, the girls track and field team won their 12th straight league championship and fourth straight county championship.

When the winners returned home, the community honored them during a salute to the champions event on the high school football field. Each team coach spoke about the collective and individual achievements of the athletes before presenting them with commemorative plaques. Town of Islip Councilman Anthony Senft and Dennis Bennett representing New York State Sen. Phil Boyle also honored the athletes with proclamations.
