Learning About the Circulatory System

As part of their science studies, second-grade students at Academy Elementary School in the Bayport-Blue Point School District have been learning about the functions and systems of the human body. As a complement to their classroom work, the students were given the chance to take an in-depth look at the circulatory system when Dr. Danielle DeGaetano visited the building.

During the program, Dr. DeGaetano spoke about the heart and blood vessels. She explained how the heart is responsible for delivering oxygen throughout the body and the reason why blood is either blue or red. At the end of the program, the students received a packet filled with activities to reinforce the subjects covered.
