Highlighting State Facts

The historical importance and key facts about many of the nation’s 50 states were on display during this year’s fifth-grade “state fair” at Blue Point Elementary School.

In preparation for the annual event, the students researched their assigned state and created presentation boards on which they described the state’s unique identifiers, such as its seal, flag, bird, geographic location and famous individuals who were born there, in addition to its general climate and population. The completed boards were put on display in the school’s gymnasium.  During the event, younger students paraded around to each display and learned one central fact about the spotlighted state.

The project offered students a hands-on and in-depth approach to studying their researched state as well as other states in the nation.
