Students in the intermediate LEAP class at Academy Street Elementary School recently completed a hands-on science activity as part of their buoyancy and fall unit. During the project, the students learned about seasonal fall items and experimented with which of these items would float or sink. After making predictions and discoveries, they chose a buoyant fall material to build a boat out of. Acorns and apples were the class favorites.
As part of their English language arts studies, the students have been reading with Callie, a therapy dog. Working with the canine, the students are able to practice their reading skills without feeling self-conscious and thus build their confidence.
