Bayport-Blue Point High School senior and standout baseball pitcher Jack Piekos has been awarded several exceptional postseason honors. In recognition of his performance during the 2013 season, Jack was named this year’s New York State Sportswriters’ Association NYS Class A Player of the Year. He also received the Paul Gibson Award, given to the best pitcher in Suffolk County, the League VII MVP and the Fred Biangardi Suffolk County Class A Playoff MVP. In addition, he was named to All-County, First-Team All-State and Newsday’s All-Long Island Team. Jack led the 2013 baseball team to a Class A state title with a school record 11 wins and 111 strikeouts to go along with a 0.38 ERA and a postseason no-hitter.

"The accolades Jack has received are the byproduct of his year-round preparation for perfection,” said coach James Moccio. “His discipline, routine and work habits are second to none. As the awards and attention pile up, Jack's sense of modesty and humility continue to endear him to his peers and the faculty of Bayport-Blue Point High School."

In addition to Jack’s individual accolades, Coach Moccio was also named the NYS Class A Coach of the Year by the New York State Sportswriters’ Association. Reflecting on the team’s championship season, Moccio said, “It is very difficult to express how special the 2013 season was. Our players displayed remarkable stability throughout the incredible run, handling themselves with class and professionalism even as they were making Suffolk County baseball history almost daily. They played the game with such exuberance that they captivated the community and created memories which will be ingrained in our school's history forever."
