Bayport-Blue Point Honors Local Military Servicemen and Women

The Bayport-Blue Point School District has created a Wall of Honor to pay tribute to alumni and employees who have served in the military. Plaques featuring the individual’s name, the branch they served in and the year they graduated have been placed under a “United States Military Service” banner at Bayport-Blue Point High School. To date, more than 80 individuals have been recognized, the earliest of whom was a member of the Class of 1941.

“We have always strived to honor our current and former athletes who have gone on to make our school district proud, and felt it only fitting to pay tribute to the true heroes of our school district,” said Timothy Mullins, the district’s director of physical education, health and interscholastic sports, who aided in the creation of the wall.  “It is because of these individuals that we are afforded the freedoms we enjoy today, and we hope they enjoy this small token of our appreciation.”

A special recognition of the project is planned for this year’s homecoming weekend, which is Sept. 28. Anyone knowing of a Bayport-Blue Point alumnus or employee who has served in the military is urged to contact Mr. Mullins via email at tmullins@bbpschools.org.
