Experiential Learning on the Farm

For the past two years, students in Erika Serraino's class at Bayport-Blue Point High School have participated in an employability program offered by local nonprofit organization Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. The program is experiential in nature, utilizing activities that combine real-world learning and character education skills with activities that involve horses and other small farm animals. The entire facility, which includes a barn, classroom and sensory integration track, is used as the learning environment. Because of the students’ hard work and motivation, Bayport-Blue Point High School has been awarded multiple grants to participate in the program. It has been a wonderful experience and the students have both truly enjoyed and grown as individuals from this opportunity.
