Phantom Baseball Team Caps Off Undefeated Season with Win at NY Championship

After an undefeated season, the 2013 Bayport-Blue Point High School varsity boys baseball team captured something unattainable by those teams that came before them – the coveted title of New York State Class A Champions – when they beat Williamsville South by 5-3 in the final round of this year’s playoffs. The last time a Bayport-Blue Point baseball team advanced to the state level was in 2004, when they were defeated in the semifinal round.

“It’s not often in life one can say they were perfect, yet the student-athletes of the 2013 baseball team can say just that,” said Timothy Mullins, the school’s director of physical education, health and interscholastic sports. “What they accomplished was nothing short of exceptional. This championship was a total team effort and a true testament to the coaching staff, athletes and parents. What’s most impressive about this achievement is how they won with class, humility and respect.”

The 2013 team, which was led by head coach Jim Moccio and assistant coach Asa Grunenwald, was comprised of team members:

Robert Acierno
Mike Alliegro
Chris Brewer
