Joined by teachers Laurie James-Katz and Christine Monahan, a group of Sylvan Avenue Elementary School students recently had the exciting opportunity to drop the ceremonial first puck at a New York Islanders vs. New York Rangers hockey game. These elementary schoolers are “student ambassadors” for Smile Train, a nonprofit organization that provides treatment to children with cleft lips and palates. Sylvan Avenue students have raised an incredible $30,000 for the Smile Train since they began fundraising for the charity in 2008.
